A Vanuatu Community Group! I'm currently looking for any EOI, funding, fisheries cold chain equipment, training or other support for the following, know of any suitable organisation/grant/training/other opportunity given , commitment to responsible sourced fisheries, social and community initiatives and interlinkages to Vanuatu business/ sustainable fisheries/community initiatives for the remote Vanuatu Island community for my former student Fishing is at the heart of our culture, economy, and daily survival amid global climate change, pollution, IUU fisheries and other emerging threats. For the past two years, our community has struggled because the only ice box freezer unit we had stopped working, cutting off our ability to preserve fish and supply locally and urban markets. We are now seeking your help to restore and rebuild this critical system, not just a single freezer but a comprehensive cold chain management system that will ensure fresh fish can be safely stored, transported, and sold. Bringing income and food security to our people once again. Why Do We Need Your Support This contributes to responsible, sustainably sourced traceable fishing, reducing the need for dangerous trips, improving nutrition and food security, climate resilience and livelihoods, given high fuel, transport and safety costs from multiple voyages and fisheries spoilage on reefs. It aids women fish processors selling in the market, youth and our actual fisherfolk. Fishing is one of the few reliable ways our community can earn a living. But without cold storage, we: Can't store fish for more than a few hours Lose most of our catch to spoilage Can't sell in urban markets like Santo and Port Vila Rely heavily on short-term, daily consumption with no pack up We were once supported with a freezer unit on each Island in our group of Islands, but it stopped operating two years ago and has not been repaired due to a lack of funds, logistics, and technical assistance. We are seeking to purchase /obtain a complete cold chain system, including: A new, energy-efficient freezer unit Solar or generator-based power source Ice-making machine Insulated transport boxes Training for local youth in handling and maintenance Please feel free to get in touch with me Jack Dyer at jadyer2020@gmail.com; jad@blueeconomyfuture.org.za, DM me/reply to the post for more information
